The Australian Renewable Energy Agency is funding a feasibility study in to portable PV-diesel hybrid systems. The issue for many mines is that the lifetime of a solar installation is typically much longer than that of a mine site. If the solar-diesel hybrid could be deployed on a temporary basis this might be less of a hurdle for mining operations. Details here
