Positioning renewables for boom days in mining

Rob Lydan, the Director of Wind and Solar at global engineering firm Hatch has been on the mine-renewables journey from the start. It was discussions with Rob in 2012 that encouraged us at Energy and Mines to develop our global series of events (that Hatch, through Rob, has supported).  Coincidentally, our efforts to create project opportunities for the renewables industry in the mining sector has been accompanied by a slump in commodities prices.  In an interview published this week in the run-up to the Renewables and Mining Summit and Exhibition – Johannesburg  Rob provides some cautionary remarks on the use of renewables in the mining sector and how factors such as the low prices of commodities and oil have dampened the momentum behind these projects.
