Guess where this picture is from?

This is from the just released annual report from Teck Resources  See here . We are always looking for sign-posts and mile stones of the shift of mining towards renewables. This is another good sign-post. Tech Resources is one of Canada’s largest diversified mining company. With these images in this report they are clearly making a statement about the corporate importance of renewable energy. That’s very cool.

In the report they re-affirm their sustainability goals including:

  • Cutting costs and emissions with LNG truck pilot
  • The SumMine solar/mine reclamation project
  • The Bright Ideas energy efficiency campaign

There 2020 and 2030 sustainability goals are as follows:

2020 Goals

  1. Implement projects that reduce energy consumption by 2,500 TJ.
  2. Implement projects that reduce GHG emissions by 275 kilotonnes (kt) of CO2-equivalent.
  3. Assess opportunities and identify potential project partners toward achieving our 2030 alternative energy goal.
  4. Engage with governments to advocate for effective and efficient carbon pricing.

2030 Goals

  1. Implement projects that reduce energy consumption by 6,000 TJ.
  2. Implement projects that reduce GHG emissions by 450 kilotonnes (kt) of CO2-equivalent.
  3. Commit to 100 megawatts (MW) of alternative energy generation.
