India’s MOIL to Install 48 KW Solar Rooftop to Save Money – Report

Indian state-owned manganese-ore mining company, MOIL Limited, has commissioned an installation of 48KW capacity grid-connected rooftop solar system with net-metering, The Times of India reported.

The endeavour is said to save the company Rs10 lakh annually, which converts to around US$15,000 per year. The solar system will be developed with the help of MEDA and SNDL.

It is projected to generate around 71,000 kWh annually. The project is part of the government’s move to encourage the use of renewables.

MOIL will be the first mining company in the area to adopt renewables at this scale. The company is headquartered in Nagpur, India, and its operations focus on manganese ore, including exploration, exploitation, and marketing.

Apart from the company’s plans to adopt solar power, it also wants to double its production of manganese ore to 2.5 million tonnes by 2020-21. In order to achieve this, the company wants to open up a new mine as well as mechanize a few of its existing ten.
