Alternative energy sources needed to meet mining’s energy crisis.
In many mining intensive regions of the world, such as Southern Africa and Chile, energy demands by mining operations cannot be met by the current power infrastructure. Additionally, to maintain supply the resource industry has to operate in increasingly remote locations with no access to the grid or connection to unreliable networks.
To meet this challenge, many mining companies are already implementing significant renewable and alternative energy strategies that are creating new partnership opportunities for the renewables, off-grid and alternative power sector.
The Energy and Mines hub site (energyandmines.com) was launched at the beginning of April 2014 to provide a resource for mining organisations looking for experience and insight on diversifying their energy mix. energyandmines.com is also a resource for those in the power sector hoping to understand the needs and lexicon of mining companies.
Energy and mines comprises free to download and regularly updated videos, news items, presentations and exclusive case studies that will help develop new partnerships between the extractive industries and the power sector.
The site will also support a number of new, highly-focused, conferences that will create networking and knowledge sharing opportunities for the mining energy decision makers and the alternative power industries.
Energy and mines was developed after the first Renewables and Mining Summit that took place in Toronto in 2013. This sell-out event underlined the growing need for the cross pollination of ideas and experience in this area. The site and events are part of Canadian Clean Energy Conferences – an Ottawa based, privately owned, B2B communications and conference company that specializes in creating events, reports and think tanks to support project opportunities for the renewables industry.
