Mining Leaders to Meet With Renewables Experts in Toronto Next Week

TORONTO, ON- Over 300 attendees from the mining industry and the renewable energy sectors are expected at the 3rd annual Energy and Mines Toronto Summit next week. Senior energy decision-makers from the mining industry will join renewable energy experts at the Toronto Marriott Downtown Eaton Centre on October 22-23 to discuss the opportunities and challenges for integrating renewables into mining’s energy supply. With energy accounting for 20-40% of operational costs, energy diversification is a strategic focus for the mining sector and this Summit offers a unique business development opportunity for renewables developers, suppliers, EPCs and investors.

Rob Lydan, Global Director of Solar and Wind at Hatch, has been involved in the Toronto Summit since its inception and is spearheading Hatch’s global outreach to the mining sector for these projects. “While there are plenty of opportunities for renewables projects for mines, some work needs to be done in terms positioning these projects for mining operators,” Lydan reports. “At the moment, the mines don’t have any capital so they are relying on the renewable power business to come to them with solutions.”

With over 65 senior mining executives participating, the event offers renewable energy experts the opportunity to meet with business decision-makers in the mining community who are interested in the energy savings, diesel abatement and supply security benefits of renewables.

Keynote presenters include John Dorward, CEO of Roxgold, the Honourable Bill Bennett, BC Minister of Energy and Mines and Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day. The agenda also features 25 senior mining executives sharing their energy strategies, including representatives from Anglo America, AngloGold Ashanti, Avalon Rare Metals, Barrick Gold, Glencore, Hudbay Minerals, IAMGOLD, Kinross Gold, Kirkland Lake Gold, Lake Shore Gold, MGX Minerals, Rio Tinto, Roxgold, Rubicon Metals, Stornoway Diamond, Teck, TMAC Resources, U3O8 Corp, and Western Copper and Gold.

A number of leading renewable energy developers and suppliers are sponsoring the event including Principal Sponsor Caterpillar and Main Sponsors Hatch, Siemens and RES.
