Gold Fields set to release a Request for Proposal for a 40 MW PV System

Johannesburg-based Gold Fields is presently out on an Expression of Interest (EoI) and intends to release a Request for Proposals on 09 November 2015. The RFP will be for a 40MW on-site PV system with option for energy storage for its South Deep gold mine in South Africa.

Gold Fields, a globally diversified producer of gold with eight operating mines in Australia, Ghana, Peru and South Africa, has been working with the Carbon War Room to review its energy security plans across all its operations, to evaluate the potential for the further adoption of renewable energy into the existing energy mix. The Carbon War Room has completed its review, with the proposed South Deep solar PV Project being one of the key recommendations.

At Energy and Mines London Summit on January 28-29, the Carbon War Room is hosting a half-day interactive workshop for senior mining executives and renewable energy experts to develop collaborative solutions for accelerating deployment of on-site renewable energy systems for the mines around the world. Click here for more details on the Carbon War Room’s Sunshine for Mines Workshop at Energy and Mines London Summit.
