Despite a complicated 2015, the Chilean investment portfolio of mining projects won’t decline in 2016. Portal Minero, the main mining media outlet in Chile, estimates an USD 81, 085 millions investment from mining companies for the new year.
An article published last week highlights 26 mining projects in exploration stage with an USD 4,000 million budget, 26 with environmental impact studies approved last December and 32 projects in execution phase for 2016 with an estimated investment of USD 27,000 millions, representing a 24% of the total mining investment.
Executives from Codelco, Kinross and Antofagasta emphasize energy efficiency, social license and environmental impact among the main challenges and goals for 2016.
