An interesting article posted today in The Conversation discusses how the use of renewables, solar PV and CSP in particular, are ideal for use in Australian mining; not only in the operations but also the processing. The article highlights a recent study by CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific Industrial and Research Organization) on the use of CSP in high temperature processing.
“Recently Sandfire Resources, a gold and copper producer based in Western Australia, announced its new solar power plant will soon start powering its DeGrussa mine. By replacing diesel power, the 10-megawatt power station, with 34,000 panels and lithium storage batteries, is expected to reduce the mine’s carbon emissions by 15%.” ….. to read the rest of the article click here
