Australia mining and processing ideal for renewables

An interesting article posted today in The Conversation discusses how the use of renewables, solar PV and CSP in particular, are ideal for use in Australian mining; not only in the operations but also the processing. The article highlights a recent study by CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific Industrial and Research Organization) on the use of CSP in high temperature processing.

“Recently Sandfire Resources, a gold and copper producer based in Western Australia, announced its new solar power plant will soon start powering its DeGrussa mine. By replacing diesel power, the 10-megawatt power station, with 34,000 panels and lithium storage batteries, is expected to reduce the mine’s carbon emissions by 15%.” ….. to read the rest of the article click here
