Subsidiary of Vedanta Ltd, Hindustan Zinc Ltd, said it is planning to double its silver output in the next five years, as solar power surges in popularity and silver is becoming a hot commodity for solar panel manufacturers.
Hindustan Zinc Ltd is projecting to see its output climb from 500 tonnes in this fiscal year to 1,000 tonnes in the fiscal year of 2022, Chief Executive Sunil Duggal told Reuters.
The solar boom in India is in some part driven by the target to produce 100 gigawatts (GW) of solar power by 2022, which was set Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.
