Unique Reclamation of Coal Mine Receives High Praise for Installing Wind Farms

A Wyoming mine received high praise for its excellent reclamation work in Glenrock. The Dave Johnston Mine, which was operated by Rocky Mountain Power, not only restored the natural habitat of the original site, but also successfully repurposed the land by installing wind farms.

The site now houses three wind farms — Glenrock, Rolling Hills and Glenrock III — making up a total of 158 turbines. The installation of wind turbine generators was overseen by Tetra Tech.

The successful reclamation process has become an example to many, showing that it is possible to turn a closed mine into a renewable energy site with endless future.
