“Commercial and industrial facilities are rapidly embracing battery energy storage – Navigant Research expects it to be a $10.8 billion market by 2025,” reports Mike Grunow, Vice President of Marketing at ViZn Energy Systems.
In this week’s Q&A interview, Grunow provides insights on how energy storage systems are being used to more smoothly integrate renewable energy sources at remote mining locations and the benefits of a reduced reliance on traditional fuel sources.
One of the main concerns that off-grid mines have with renewable energy sources is their intermittent nature and the effect it can have on a microgrid, he notes. However, as the diesel market continues to fluctuate, off-grid mines are increasingly combining renewables with battery storage solutions to overcome intermittency problems and reduce their reliance on expensive, and logistically difficult, fuel pipelines.
