Cement and Mining Equipment Maker FLSmidth Zeroes In On Emissions

Danish company FLSmidth launched Mission Zero on its Capital Markets Day on November 6.

Mission Zero is the company’s new sustainability program to significantly reduce emissions across the global cement and mining industries by 2030, according to a report in INTERNATIONAL MINING.

FLSmidth supplies equipment to both cement and mining customers. Both industries are known to be heavy on their carbon footprint.

FLSmidth will enable its cement and mining customers to move to zero emissions by 2030. The latter will also get a specific focus on water management.

Specifically, in the cement industry, the company will reduce CO2 emissions per kg of cement by 70% by 2030, using existing technologies, innovations, and early-stage R&D, for example, by blending clinker with alternative materials. For the remainder of 30%, it will co-create new solutions in collaboration with other companies.

In mining, the company will offer solutions to achieve zero water-waste by 2030, for example, by leveraging its success in the development of the dry-stack tailings solution.

“MissionZero goes beyond what is feasible today and requires a paradigm shift in how industry players collaborate and innovate,” said Thomas Schulz, Group CEO, FLSmidth. “As a leader in the cement and mining industries, we have a responsibility to accelerate the adoption of sustainable solutions.”
