Azelio ties up with Chilean company Vogt for energy storage in Latin American mining

Azelio, a Swedish renewable energy company, announced its partnership with Chilean company Industria Mecánica VOGT S.A. (VOGT) on solar PV energy storage projects for the Latin American mining industry. (Azelio)

VOGT is a Chilean supplier of industrial equipment including pumping systems for the largest mining companies in the region. These pumping installations require power 24/7, and in off-grid locations, through diesel generators.

Azelio’s renewable solution envisages the storage of power generated from solar PV as thermal energy with 13 hours of dispatchable electricity production. Low-cost renewable energy electricity is therefore available at all hours of the day. This solution will power VOGT’s pumping systems for the mining industry with renewable electricity around the clock.

The MoU between Azelio and VOGT covers 10MW of Azelio’s energy storage solution from 2021 through to 2024.

The arrangement allows VOGT to enhance its offers to supply pumping systems with an accompanying source of clean and reliable power that is significantly cheaper than diesel, and more environment-friendly.

“Joining hands with an established company like VOGT and to introduce our technology to the mining industry is a very positive step for Azelio,” said Jonas Eklind, CEO of Azelio. “We look forward to demonstrating the commercial and environmental values of Azelio’s long-duration energy storage.”

VOGT may also join with Azelio to co-develop projects and provide operations and maintenance (O&M) services related to its storage technology.
