juwi To Build Hybrid Energy Solution For Iluka’s Zircon Mine

Brisbane-based juwi Renewable Energy Pty Ltd will integrate 3.4MW of solar generation with an existing 12MW diesel power station at Iluka’s Jacinth Ambrosia Project in South Australia, the world’s largest zircon mine.

juwi signed an agreement to construct the hybrid power solution with KPS, an operating subsidiary of Pacific Energy, which will own and operate the facility for the mine. Pacific Energy is an Australian developer, owner, operator, and supplier of specialist power generation and energy storage facilities including for mining operations and townships at remote locations.

Once completed later this year, the project will fulfill almost 21% of the mine’s annual power requirement.

“Hybrid power solutions offer the potential to significantly reduce the amount of fossil fuel power generation at Iluka’s operations,” said Dave Manning, Global Head of Hybrid at juwi.

It will be the sixth hybrid project for juwi, a subsidiary of German renewable energy giant juwi AG.

The company’s “juwi Hybrid IQ” software intelligently integrates solar power plants into an existing isolated power network. These projects are backed by juwi’s integrated and comprehensive business model that offers project development, EPC, and O&M services to customers.

juwi AG is currently constructing a 204 MW solar park in Kozani, Greece, the largest solar facility in southeast Europe.
