Sandvik has been chosen to provide a fleet of 19 battery-electric vehicles to Rana Gruber’s iron ore mine operations in northern Norway. The order, valued at around SEK 370 million (US$36 million), includes trucks, loaders, drills, on-site service support, and batteries.
Deliveries are expected to start in the first quarter of 2023 and continue through 2024.
The BEV fleet will assist Rana Gruber in achieving its goal of operating the world’s first carbon-free iron ore mine by the end of 2025, as well as providing significant benefits to the work environment by reducing exhaust emissions and decreasing heat and noise pollution.
Rana Gruber’s deposits in Norway’s Dunderland Valley yield approximately 1.8 million metric tons of iron ore concentrates annually.
“Our battery-electric solutions offering is a strategic focus area for Sandvik and an essential driver in shaping the sustainable mine of the future,” said Stefan Widing, CEO and President of Sandvik. “We are seeing an increase in larger and repeat orders, which is a testament to Sandvik’s high performing equipment and service.”
