China’s XCMG Develops Concept Of A Cabless, All-Electric, Autonomous Mining Truck

Chinese mining equipment manufacturer XCMG has expanded its mining influence beyond the domestic market by exporting its equipment to countries like Brazil, Indonesia, Mongolia, and Ecuador.

The company has also been involved in autonomous mining operations and was the first to deploy a remote-controlled excavator – a 93 t class Intelligent Hydraulic Excavator XE950DA using BuilderX technology at Jiangxi Copper.

XCMG has now developed a cabless, autonomous, and battery electric concept mining truck called the XDR80TE-AT.

The vehicle supports both remote control and autonomous modes of operation, with multiple high precision sensors including LiDAR to scan the truck’s surroundings and conduct safety assessments. The all-electric truck is powered by a 500 kW/h battery, that can be fast-charged, and swapped out in six minutes.

Mining staff can manage the truck via a software-equipped control center that has continuous access to all operational data.

XCMG plans to bring all these elements together in a production environment and make its new concept truck available for real mining fleets.
