Eldorado Gold To Advance Canadian Mine Electrification With Sandvik TH550B BEVs

Eldorado Gold is readying to deploy in June its first battery-electric truck at the Lamaque underground mine in Quebec, Canada, as part of its effort to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030.

The Vancouver-based company has already tested a Normet SmartDrive concrete transportation vehicle at its Efemçukuru gold mine in Turkey.

Eldorado plans to acquire two Sandvik TH550B battery-electric trucks for use at its Canadian mine. The 50-tonne payload battery-powered trucks combine Sandvik’s experience in developing loaders and trucks with Artisan’s innovative electric drivelines and battery packs. The vehicles offer zero emissions and have fast and easy battery AutoSwap and AutoConnect functions for battery swap processes that take only a few minutes.

The company’s sustainable focus at Lamaque is not limited to the purchase of Sandvik vehicles. Eldorado has already eliminated 26 km of surface haulage and re-handling on public roads at Lamaque, reducing GHG emissions and has increased the operation’s energy efficiency, cut its ambient noise, and reduced surface dust.
