Imerys, a mineral-based specialty solutions supplier, is collaborating with TotalEnergies to implement a large-scale solar power system with battery energy storage at its Lompoc diatomite mining facility in California.
This initiative is part of a long-term energy services contract or Power Purchase and Storage Services Agreement (PPSSA). TotalEnergies will be responsible for installing and maintaining a 15MWdc ground-mounted solar array and a 7.5MWh energy storage system at the facility for a period of 25 years.
The renewable power installation will cover approximately 50% of the site’s current electricity demand and is expected to be operational within three years. The solar-plus-storage system consists of a ground-mounted solar photovoltaic (PV) system with a single-axis tracker and bi-facial modules, designed to optimize energy generation. It is estimated to produce approximately 30GWh of electricity per year.
The project reflects Imerys’ commitment to reducing CO2 emissions and producing clean energy across its operations in the Americas. TotalEnergies, with its expertise in distributed generation, aims to support Imerys in achieving its sustainability goals.
