Foran Mining and Sandvik have showcased their newest innovation, the DD422iE, at the CIM 2023 conference in Montreal. This battery-electric jumbo drill is part of a fleet of 20 such vehicles to be used in the McIlvenna Bay project located in Saskatchewan, Canada. In addition to its drilling capabilities, the DD422iE can also perform bolting functions.
Sandvik previously announced its largest battery-electric vehicle (BEV) order, which includes the DD422iE as well as other equipment such as loaders, trucks, and longhole drills. The delivery of this equipment is expected to start this year and continue through to 2025.
Foran Mining has stated that the DD422iE’s eco-friendly features demonstrate its dedication to carbon-neutral critical mineral production.
Overall, the introduction of battery-electric vehicles, such as the DD422iE, is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, increase energy efficiency, and improve working conditions for miners. Furthermore, mining companies can expect to enhance their sustainability efforts through the adoption of such eco-friendly technologies.
