Northern Star Contracts With Zenith For 40MW Renewable Energy At The Jundee Mine

Zenith Energy and Northern Star have announced a long-term agreement for the supply of electricity to Northern’s Jundee Operations. This agreement involves the incorporation of 40MW of wind and solar energy generation using a combination of wind turbines, solar panels, and a battery system that would be installed and integrated into the existing gas power station network of the mine.

The renewable energy additions will consist of 24MW of wind power, 16.9MWp of solar energy, and a battery energy storage capacity of 12MW/13.4MWh. These sources are expected to meet approximately 56% of the mine site’s power needs based on current projections.

Northern Star has made a commitment to decrease its carbon footprint by 35% before 2030.

After the successful implementation of solar energy at the Carosue Dam Operations, the Jundee Operations has been identified as the next target for significant reductions in carbon emissions within Northern Star’s asset portfolio.

The solar energy system is scheduled to be commissioned in late 2023, while the wind turbines are planned for commissioning in mid to late 2024.
