The entire amount of 308,653 MwH of electricity consumed in 2020 by the Minera Valle Central (MVC) copper operation near Rancagua in Chile came from renewable sources.
MVC, which is 100% owned by TSX-listed Amerigo Resources Ltd, produces copper concentrate and molybdenum concentrate as a by-product by processing fresh and historic tailings from Codelco’s El Teniente mine, the world’s largest underground copper mine.
MVC receives electricity sourced from renewable sources under a long term agreement valid to December 31, 2037.
Amerigo announced on July 7, 2021, that MVC had received its first annual Renewable Energy Certificate, issued by the International REC Standard, certifying that during the period January 1, to December 31, 2020, all of MVC’s operations were renewable-powered.
Aurora Davidson, Amerigo’s President and CEO, said the company was proud to add the Renewable Energy Certificate to its ESG credentials.
“MVC is leading the way in Chile and within the mining industry worldwide through this certification as a 100% renewable-powered operation,” she added.
