Alcoa, a global leader in bauxite, alumina, and aluminum products, has announced the expansion of its EcoSource low-carbon alumina brand to include certain grades of non-metallurgical alumina.
EcoSource was first launched in 2020 for smelter-grade applications and is the world’s first and only low-carbon alumina brand. The expansion of EcoSource low-carbon alumina brand includes non-metallurgical grades, such as hydrates and calcined materials. Hydrates find their primary use in municipal water treatment applications, whereas calcined materials are used for manufacturing ceramic tiles, glass, and flame retardants.
The EcoSource low-carbon alumina brand is sourced from Alcoa’s global refining system, which has an average carbon dioxide equivalent intensity (CO2e) that is below 0.6 tons per ton of alumina produced.
EcoSource low-carbon alumina brand is a part of Alcoa’s Sustana family, the most extensive in the industry since it is the sole brand that encompasses alumina, primary aluminum, and recycled content aluminum.
Alcoa’s other products include EcoLum, EcoDura, and EcoLum and EcoSource with certification from the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI).
