Cennergi Holdings, a 100% subsidiary of Exxaro Resources, has achieved financial closure on the Lephalale Solar Project (LSP), a 68MW solar facility. The project will supply clean energy to Exxaro’s Grootegeluk Mine in South Africa’s Limpopo Province.
The LSP will operate as a behind-the-meter energy source, directly providing solar power to the mine for 25 years through a power purchase agreement. The 236-hectare project site is strategically located on Exxaro-owned land adjacent to the Grootegeluk mine and near the town of Marapong and Eskom’s Matimba power station.
The LSP will be constructed over 19 months through an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract and will be financed through project finance debt and equity investment.
The project aligns with Exxaro’s Sustainable Growth and Impact strategy and aims to achieve energy cost savings, increased energy security, and decarbonization benefits while fostering sustainable development and socioeconomic benefits for local communities.
