We are excited that in a few weeks time, at the Renewables and Mining Summit and Exhibition, Toronto 15-16 October, Jean-Francois Verret, director of strategy, projects and public affairs at Glencore’s Raglan Mine will be presenting on their wind, energy storage project that is currently under construction. In advance of the presentation we thought it would be interesting to revisit the case study presented by Rio Tinto’s Liezl Van Wyk on another remote mine site integrating wind technology. The Diavik Diamond Mine Wind Farm is a testament to the innovation and strength of purpose of these development teams. These two example highlight the viability of alternative energy integration in remote and extreme conditions. If this can be cost-effective in the arctic circle it must surely be workable and profitable in less extreme conditions. This case study was presented at the first Renewables and Mining Summit in Toronto 2013.
