Epiroc To Use SSAB Zero, A Fossil Carbon Emission-Free Steel, In Underground Electric Machines

Epiroc and Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB have partnered to use SSAB Zero™, a fossil carbon emission-free recycled steel, in Epiroc’s battery-electric range of underground mine trucks and loaders from Q3 2023.

Epiroc has made history by becoming the first mining company to sign a delivery agreement with SSAB for SSAB Zero™, a type of recycled steel produced with sustainable energy sources that emits no fossil carbon emissions.

This partnership is part of Epiroc’s goal to cut in half its CO2e emissions by 2030 compared to 2019 and to produce the world’s greenest machines.

SSAB Zero™ has zero fossil carbon emissions in operations, with properties equal to steel that Epiroc uses today.

Epiroc has signed on for deliveries of both SSAB Zero™ and SSAB Fossil-free™. The latter is based on iron-ore without fossil fuels.
