Carlton Power has signed partnership agreements with Imerys and Sibelco to supply green hydrogen fuel to their clay mining operations located within five miles of Carlton’s Langage Green Hydrogen project. Both Imerys and Sibelco aim to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions over the next decade and have identified hydrogen as an important lever in their sustainability strategies.
The Langage project, located eight miles east of Plymouth, Devon, will be the first of its kind in the South West of England, with an initial 10 MW capacity earmarked to enter operation in 2025.
Green hydrogen produced at Langage will be supplied by an underground pipeline to Sibelco’s Cornwood operation and Imerys’ Lee Moor operation, both of which produce kaolin for brick ceramics and tiles industries.
The UK Government last month shortlisted Carlton Power’s Langage Green Hydrogen project for financial support.
Construction is expected to begin before the end of the year, subject to final agreements with the UK Government and a financial investment decision.
